This past week I took a trip up to Chicago for the weekend. I arrived on Friday night and checked into my downtown hotel. I went to dinner at a Mexican restaurant which was not very good. After dinner I went to a piano bar with my husband which was very nice. I enjoyed listening to the music that they played. Saturday I went to a baby shower for my sister-in-law for a few hours. Then I went back to my hotel and my husband and I went shopping on Michigan Avenue. The shopping is really good there and I bought a lot of new clothes. Saturday night we went to dinner at Joe’s Seafood and Steakhouse. The food was excellent but it was very expensive. It was about $200 for the two of us! After dinner we went to a comedy show. The show was good but not as good as I thought it was going to be. Still it was worth the $20 we paid for tickets. Sunday morning we had breakfast at the hotel and then left to go home.

I have three cats, they are all big babies and they are just so cute.  They know this, see, and they use it against us humans.  The cuteness factor makes up for all the things they do that annoy, like keeping us up all night running through the house making all kinds of noise or pouncing us.  It’s hard to resist a persistent kitty.  They also are very tuned in to any kid of emotional upset, though I suppose the same could be said for dogs.  Anytime I get upset, my kitties are right there trying to calm me down, it’s actually pretty comical.  We have a dog, he is a great little guy, but I will forever favor the cats and I just cant help it.  I suppose some people are cat people and some people are dog people and that’s just how life goes.

I realize that the people I mentioned are not people I would ever really have a chance of sharing a conversation over lunch with, but if I could, they are on the top of my list.  Marilyn Monroe is beautiful, tragic, and she is my idol.  I wish I could pull off the dress blowing in the wind trick like her!  Who doesn’t want to meet Jesus?  Maybe a few people but I think it would be an awesome chance for true enlightenment.  Walt Disney influenced us all growing up with his company.  Every kid dreams of going to Disney World.  I would love to have met the man behind it all.

I am a southerner, born and raised, and I was raised on typical stereotypical southern style food like fried chicken and sweet iced tea, and now those are my comfort foods.  Add mashed potatoes with gravy and macaroni and cheese and I’m in heaven.  They remind me of my childhood when I was carefree and everything was fine.  I dont eat them very often (whoa, calories!) but when I’m feeling a little low sometimes I make it and it cheers me up, though I don’t go for the KFC kind of fried chicken.  It’s too greasy for my stomach!

My family is a circus act.  I mean, no one is perfect (even me) but some people, who I refuse to name, really push it.  My dad is about to turn 47.  He should have been over his partying days twenty plus years ago, but he isn’t and he is in and out of the county jail every single year and constantly getting mad at me when I wont let him take my car out.  My mom is sweet, she is probably the most perfect person I know, luckily she isn’t married to my dad anymore.  My stepdad is a stubborn, thick headed fool but we love him.  It’s my husband’s family that is really nuts anyway, fighting amongst each other almost constantly and driving ME crazy with it all!

I am a girl that’s all about comfort.  I don’t care if those shoes are the cutest shoes in the world, if they aren’t comfortable and I cant walk in them I would never buy them.  If the jeans are too tight, I put them in the back of the closet in hopes that, someday, I will wear a size 8 again.  I actually don’t like jeans that much anyway unless they are very comfortable and fit me just right.  I have had maybe five pairs like that in my life that I have loved and worn out.  I still have them all.  My everday wardrobe, which would drive some people crazy, mainly consists of sweats, workout pants, and pajamas.  Especially the fuzzy fleece ones.  What can I say?  It’s hard to be a good housewife and look perfect every day.

I have been using Gmail for about a year now and I like it much better than other services I have used, such as America Online and Yahoo.  Google offers a more user friendly interface and more options to give you what you really want out of an email service, plus a spam filter that is more than adequate for me.  The inbox loads quickly without a bunch of bells and whistles slowing the process down. Storing mail is easy and so is composing and attaching files.  Since I have started using Gmail I quit using all of my other addresses on AOL and Yahoo.

My family is a hard subject for me, because for the last few years I haven’t been close to them. It’s not really anyone ones fault its just I am African American and Caucasion. I feel as if I’m too black for the white side, and too white for the black side (though I really do act like the biggest white boy). But I guess it’s hard to identify with either side of the family. I rarely talk to either side except for the white side on family holidays. Both my families see to love me, but I just don’t have a good relationship with them is all.
