Jeet Kune Do: The Martial Art Form of Bruce Lee

Bruce Lee is known for his Kung Fu movies, but not a of people know that he developed his own unique style of martial arts that he referred to as Jeet Kune Do. It’s actually a blend of traditional martial arts with new strategies and techniques and being taught all over the world. This article will look at what Jeet Kune Do is all about and what makes it unique compared to other martial arts.

Bruce Lee was a proficient martial artist before he become recognized as an actor. He was a student of a lot of classic martial arts, especially Wing Chun Kung Fu. Jeet Kune Do or JKD, is a mix of all effective elements in the forms of martial arts Bruce Lee perfected. Bruce Lee wanted to develop a non-traditional but powerful martial art style that could be easily personalized to the needs of the individual. The influence of Jeet Kune Do can be seen in martial arts today and even fencing and Western boxing. Bruce Lee’s whole objective was to come up with a martial art style that anyone could learn and develop their own personal style.

Although Jeet Kune Do is very much a modern martial art, it is profoundly rooted in Wing Chun. This kind of Kung Fu is still being taught all over the world. According to legend, Wing Chun began hundreds of years ago by a Shaolin nun named Ng Mui. The strategies of Wing Chun are designed to be effective for those who need to battle against much stronger or larger adversaries. It’s also intended to be quicker to master than other kinds of Kung Fu. It’s common for students of Wing Chun to practice their strategies with a wooden dummy. Bruce Lee learned Wing Chun and other fighting styles for several years before he invented Jeet Kune Do.

People these days might wonder how relevant Jeet Kune Do is, particularly if mixed martial arts are quite popular. The simple truth is, though, that Bruce Lee was extremely important in the world of mixed martial arts, though he didn’t live long enough to see the more modern directions taken by MMA. What mixed martial arts is not all that different from what Bruce Lee created in Jeet Kune Do, which is a blend of all the fantastic methods of all martial arts in one system. In fact, Dana White, the president of the UFC, credits Bruce Lee with being the real father of mma. Thus it can be said that Jeet Kune Do is the original kind of mixed martial arts.

Insights about improving results

1139 Gromit's new dog walk by WoofBC

When seeking to improve your agility, it makes sense to seek out routines that will assist you in your goals. Better agility allows you to perform better on the field or court. This is due to improved reaction to outside stimuli and compact, fluid motion in that response.

Agility training offers a number of other benefits. Those who have top agility also have the advantage of having fewer injuries than the norm. This is due simply to the improved form and more precise, trained muscle movements that come from comprehensive agility training.

Ladder agility drills are one popular method of increasing agility. Leg strength is key to improved agility, so incorporate exercises to increase leg strength. Combined with ladder agility drills, you’ll find greater results on the field. You can purchase an affordable agility ladder, or create one of your own with rope, tape, sticks, or other makeshift items you have around to form a ladder pattern on the ground.

Agility and foot work are extremely important parts of playing football, however, these are also areas which are over looked when it comes to off season and preseason work outs and conditioning. When referring to agility and foot work one is usually addressing the ability of a player to change direction, move his feet, and move the feet in one direction and then another. Agility and foot work is also called quick feet and essentially involves the ability to start and stop quickly as needed on the field.

There are many different drills which may be employed when attempting to work with football players on their agility. Perhaps one of the oldest and most well known is the tire drill. Thousands and thousands of players have taken their turn navigating two alternating rows of tires. The goal is to concentrate on picking the feet up and putting them down in the center of the tire. Another drill which is certainly similar is the ropes or ladder drill. With the ropes drill, a series of ropes is suspended above the ground forming two rows of squares. In the same manner as the tire drill, the football player high knees through the ropes concentrating on placing the foot down and picking it up again quickly. The ladder drill consists of a nylon double or single row ladder which lies on the ground. The player moves through the ladder course alternating his feet inside the squares. The players can also be instructed to place one foot inside, then the other, followed by one out and then two out and is performed with a high knee motion.

Another variation on the theme, as it were, is to have a player stand beside a yard line. On a signal, the player high knees one foot over the line then the other. The motion is repeated for five to seven yards crisscrossing the line with lots of repetition. Many programs have found success with plyometric boxes which require an athlete to lift one or both legs at a time to a variety of heights.

Cone work is another good tool for working on agility and foot work. Cones may be set up as two, three or four depending on the drill. Using two cones, simply have the player move back and forth between cones paying attention to foot work, cuts, and the use of the body. Additional cones may be added to vary the pattern being run or to add circling around the cones to the drill.

Working in the off season to increase the agility of football players will pay huge dividends in the fall of the year. Receivers will come off the line of scrimmage harder and run better routes and defensive backs will make better cuts and be more productive on the defensive side of the ball. All players will benefit from added agility and foot work.

Here’s one drill to try: In the five count drill – you will perform the most complex pattern. Start by hopping to your right foot, outside the first square to the right. Next, you’ll step with your left foot into the square and follow then with your right foot in the same square. After that, step into the second square with the left foot, and follow up with the right. In the third square, you’ll reverse what you did in the first square, stepping with your left foot outside, then your right inside, followed by the left foot. Continue on until you’re through the squares.

Your Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 Analyzed

Wouldn’t it be great if the photo you take with your camera could turn out exactly the way you see it in your mind – with just the click of your shutter button? Sad to say that’s only a fantasy, except for the talented few with stacks of experience. Those of us in the real world need something extra, and Adobe Photoshop is a favoured version of that something. Of course, Photoshop isn’t merely for photos. It is also for impression modifying and construction. Photoshop can easily prove useful to innovative men and women of all walks, such as photographers, graphic designers, illustrators and many more. At this time on the list of leading sellers in image editors is Adobe Photoshop Elements 9. We thought we’d consider it to see if it deserves its stars.

For more good articles, check out our Review of the Kodak Playsport ZX5..

As you’d expect, all the usual photo editing functions are standard with Adobe Photoshop Elements 9.

Photo editing is great to adjust the light balance, expecially for high speed sports like fencing and to highlight products.

Contrast and also brightness are but a couple of the controllable aspects. You can check the effect on your photo of a change in sharpness or comparing a variety of colors. A person can easily increase hues and their dilution. Further functions include correcting for red eye, as well as one for whitening teeth. It includes all the stuff you need to make the people in your photos resemble supermodels as well as the landscapes to look as good as paintings. But almost all photo enhancing software comes with that stuff. So, is there anything that Photoshop Elements 9 is able to do that its rivals don’t?

The clutter eliminator will let you get rid of photo clutter such as phone wires, microphone stands, extra people, passing cards, etc. Then, if you’ve ever wished to emulate the style of a particular photographer, the Photomerge Style Match lets you do just that. Plus publishing is as easy as one touch. But all this helps make this review sound like an ad. Is there any real sizzle I can share with you?

This product has been given largely positive reviews. A big plus with customers is that it integrates just as well with Windows and Mac. They like that it is compatible with all the various image file formats. A word of warning, though; the software is generally perceived to be very advanced and thus not easy to handle for someone new to photo editing. A means around this matter would be to purchase an instructional video or book that is aimed at newcomers. From this particular point of view it’s a great pity that a guide book is not supplied along with the software. Actually, it may be helpful for some users to attend a course in photo/image editing – these are often offered by community centers.

A further down side to this is the price. Photoshop Elements 9 is relatively reasonably priced in comparison with some other Adobe products. It costs as low as Eighty dollars. It could end up seeming like a small fortune wasted, though, if you struggle to use the software competently. It is worth checking out the free tryout of the software offered by the company – you can grab it on their website. This will allow you to play around a little bit while using software before you purchase it – something that most people would agree is majorly beneficial.

Here is a tutorial video from Photoshop Elements 9 to give you a feel for the product:

Fencing on Access Hollywood

Tim Morehouse promoted fencing and his meal sponsor Bistro MD on Access Hollywood yesterday and posted the video on his blog:

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWqe2MUwlJ4

Among the tidbits from Tim’s clip:

  • Listing of actors/actresses who’ve done fencing, including Jerry O’Connell who was captain of the NYU Fencing Team
  • Fencing burns 600 calories per hour
  • Great workout for the butt & thighs
  • Qualification for the London Olympic Games starts soon

We’re also thrilled that the sabre fencing masks and jacket used came from Fencing.Net.  (Yeah, I slowed down the video to check!)

Rowing is an efficient and effective low-impact exercise that utilizes the arms, abdomen, back and legs, providing a total-body workout. This activity offers the opportunity for a wide range of training from fat burning and aerobic conditioning to high-intensity anaerobic and interval VO2max training. The rowing stroke is a smooth continuous, non-impact movement. If you have a history of low back pain, special attention must be given to developing proper rowing technique to prevent injury.

Verizon is just OK

I do like my current phone carrier, but only because the service works just about anywhere. Verizon is my current phone carrier. The phone I have is the Blackberry Storm. I like this phone because it is a touch screen and has pretty good internet. I have been thinking about switching phones to the new Droid phone but I haven’t yet. I would rather have AT&T for my phone carrier but their service does not work well in my town. AT&T has the best phone around…the iPhone. But their service stinks. So I think Verizon has the best service but not the best phones.

Visit to Chicago

This past week I took a trip up to Chicago for the weekend. I arrived on Friday night and checked into my downtown hotel. I went to dinner at a Mexican restaurant which was not very good. After dinner I went to a piano bar with my husband which was very nice. I enjoyed listening to the music that they played. Saturday I went to a baby shower for my sister-in-law for a few hours. Then I went back to my hotel and my husband and I went shopping on Michigan Avenue. The shopping is really good there and I bought a lot of new clothes. Saturday night we went to dinner at Joe’s Seafood and Steakhouse. The food was excellent but it was very expensive. It was about $200 for the two of us! After dinner we went to a comedy show. The show was good but not as good as I thought it was going to be. Still it was worth the $20 we paid for tickets. Sunday morning we had breakfast at the hotel and then left to go home.

Why I love Cats More Than Dogs

I have three cats, they are all big babies and they are just so cute.  They know this, see, and they use it against us humans.  The cuteness factor makes up for all the things they do that annoy, like keeping us up all night running through the house making all kinds of noise or pouncing us.  It’s hard to resist a persistent kitty.  They also are very tuned in to any kid of emotional upset, though I suppose the same could be said for dogs.  Anytime I get upset, my kitties are right there trying to calm me down, it’s actually pretty comical.  We have a dog, he is a great little guy, but I will forever favor the cats and I just cant help it.  I suppose some people are cat people and some people are dog people and that’s just how life goes.

Marilyn Monroe, Jesus, and Walt Disney; Why I Wish We Could Have Lunch

I realize that the people I mentioned are not people I would ever really have a chance of sharing a conversation over lunch with, but if I could, they are on the top of my list.  Marilyn Monroe is beautiful, tragic, and she is my idol.  I wish I could pull off the dress blowing in the wind trick like her!  Who doesn’t want to meet Jesus?  Maybe a few people but I think it would be an awesome chance for true enlightenment.  Walt Disney influenced us all growing up with his company.  Every kid dreams of going to Disney World.  I would love to have met the man behind it all.
